Seeking a New Site for Windcall

Mountain ViewWindcall Residents benefit from the generosity of allies who have generously donated the use of property and services for Windcall Residencies and have been real partners to the program.  In turn, these friends of Windcall benefit from seeing their contribution forwarding social justice in a completely different way.

We are continually looking for new sites and partnerships in various parts of the country. Please contact us if you think your retreat center, second home or other site could be a Windcall Residency Program site.  In 2011, sites which are being donated for the Windcall Residency Program are in:

  • Olympic Peninsula, Washington State through the generosity of Merrill Weyerhaeuser and Pat Welly
  • Blue Mountain Lake, New York through the support of the Blue Mountain Center
  • Half Moon Bay, California through the gift of Tunitas Creek Ranch

We are also working in close partnership this year with stone circles to provide Residencies for the first time this year at their retreat center, Stone House, in North Carolina.

Please contact us at 510/834-3892 or at  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it if you think your property could be another Windcall site. We are seeking donated property or partial use of a property (private home or an existing program site) that can house 3-6 residents at a time. Ideal locations will have ample access to nature, access to an airport within 2 hours and a comfortable residence with common and private spaces for art, writing and yoga in addition to:

1. Natural Beauty: A place of great natural beauty that has a special sacred “feel” to the land. In addition, the site should feel “removed” – but not too remote, so that affordable access is available for people traveling from long distances.

2. Caring Host: A host or hosts that offers the gift of unconditional support and who can quietly “hold the space” for healing and reflection. In addition, the host has a number of logistical tasks.. This role could be filled by the owner of the land or a past Resident we recruit. Feel free to explore options with us.

3. Small and Intimate Space:
Only a few residents at a time (three to six ideally), preferably with a separate space for writing and art.

4. Significant Length of Time for Residencies:
Three weeks to one month per cohort and preferably more than one cohort a year (i.e., six to eight week minimum preferred).

5. Comfort: Good food, prepared meals at night by a cook, outside cleaning service, comfortable surroundings. (Residents report that the feeling that they are being taken care of, often for the first time in their lives, is a crucial element to the healing process.)

6. Creativity: Access to creative resources such as art and writing supplies and to people who can teach art. The program covers these costs but the nearby area needs to be home for people with these skills.

7. Physical Activity: Access to activities such as hiking, horseback riding, biking, and yoga instruction.

8. Program: Commitment to the program's focus on grassroots organizers from people of color and low-income communities.
