ORGANIZATIONAL DEVELOPMENT SUPPORT

Common Counsel Foundation is inviting organizational development consultants to submit proposal the foundations operational growth plan and stakeholder interviews.

I.      OVERVIEW:
Common Counsel Foundation is seeking to consultant to support the foundation’s transition and organizational evolution. Contract planning budget is $20,000.

Contract components include:

  • Interim CEO Debrief & Analysis
  • Vision & Growth Interviews Stakeholder Interviews
  • Organizational Structure Plan

II.      ORGANIZATION INFORMATION:

Organization Overview
Founded in 1988, Common Counsel Foundation partners with families and individual donors to expand philanthropic resources for progressive social movements. Through our strategic philanthropic services, we prioritize support for community-based organizations building the leadership of low-income people, women, youth, people of color and others working for justice, equity, and a healthy, sustainable environment.

In 2019, Common Counsel Foundation advised or disbursed over $8.2 million dollars in support of grass-roots led progressive social change and environmental health efforts across the county.

Common Counsel’s internal grant programs include:
The Grassroots Exchange Fund (GXF) – a community-guided rapid response small grants program established to build bridges between grassroots social and environmental justice organizations throughout the United States.

Native Voices Rising – a collaboration between Common Counsel Foundation and Native Americans in Philanthropy, is a research and re-granting project designed to support grassroots groups led by and for Native communities in American Indian, Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian communities.

The Social and Economic Justice Fund (SEJ) – a collaborative grants initiative that supports organizations working on civil and human rights, youth organizing, and economic justice for low-income immigrant communities and communities of color.

We are the fiscal host to several efforts that provide support capacity building provides including:

Common Counsel Residency Program
The Windcall Resident Program, a retreat program for social change organizers and activists.

RoadMap Consulting
A national network of seasoned capacity builders across the country dedicated to supporting movement organizations, networks, alliances and leaders.

A pooled fund of 11 grantmaking partners committed to equitable development by supporting power building in communities of color across California.

III.      PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Common Counsel Foundation is looking to shift from a transitional leadership phase into an expansion phase. We are looking for a consultant to support finalizing the analysis of the interim executive director, hold stakeholder interviews and develop an organizational growth plan.

Common Counsel Foundation’s Board of Trustees and Staff are committed to the evolution of the foundation from a period of transition to growth.

IV.      APPLICANT INFORMATION:
Submission Requirements/Proposal Content

Interested parties should submit a proposal, not to exceed five pages, with the following information:

  • Cover Letter
  • Description of your team – name, location, contact information, history, areas of specialization.
  • Consultant’s/Team’s experience and expertise in social justice organizations.
  • Names of all key personnel, specifying experience and qualifications (please indicate all lead staff).
  • Description of demonstrated organizational growth plans and strategic planning process. Share any experience in transitioning organizations to remote office engagement.
  • Provide at least two (2) references from recent or current clients (within the last five years). Please include:
    • Name and contact information of client
    • Description of the services provided to the client
    • Description of the project, its duration and current status of the project

V.      REPORT TO:

The applicant will report to the Executive Director at the Common Counsel Foundation, Peggy Saika. peggy@commoncounsel.org

VI.      STATUS:

VII.    SCOPE OF WORK:

Interim CEO Debrief & Analysis

Work with Executive Director to develop interim analysis and recommendations.

Vision & Growth Interviews Stakeholder Interviews

Host stakeholder interviews with Trustees, staff, donors, fiscal sponsors to gather vision and goal recommendations for CCF’s next growth phase. This information will be utilized in CCF’s strategic plan development.

Organizational Structure Plan

Utilizing interim analysis, stakeholder interview findings, update staff job sections, develop an organizational growth structure plan with at least two phases: intermediate structure shifts and staffing plans over the next 24 months. 

VIII.  CONTRACT SELECTION SCHEDULE:
This schedule is based on our current guidelines but is subject to change:

May 15, 2020: RFP Announced
May 2
5, 2020: RFP Close Date
May 25-29, 2020: Start Applicant Evaluations & Exploration Calls
June 1, 2020: Award Contract
July 30, 2020: Project Complete

 IX.      SELECTION:
Applicants who have demonstrated the capacity to meet our requirements will be notified via phone/email of our selection to move forward with the RFP Process.

 X.       PROPOSALS SUBMISSION
Responses must be emailed to hr@commoncounsel.org with the following subject line: “RFP Response – OD Consultant”. Submittals must be received no later than 11:59 PM EST on May 22, 2020.
