Announcement of CEO Transition

It is with appreciation for her contributions to CCF that we bid farewell to CEO Laura Livoti and wish her the very best in her next venture.

The Board of Directors offers its gratitude to Laura Livoti for her leadership and stewardship of CCF since 2013. During her tenure, CCF increased its impact and influence significantly, playing an essential role in supporting grassroots organizing work across the country. Laura contributed to the expansion of CCF’s vibrant community of individual donor and foundation partners. Common Counsel Foundation’s total number of donor advised funds increased by 60% and the total number of collaborative funds increased from two (moving an average of $105K annually) to six, now moving several million dollars of grants a year. CCF’s annual grantmaking increased from a historic average of $1.5M to an anticipated $6M by the end of 2018.

Laura oversaw the diversification of both the staff and Board, building a higher power Board that includes philanthropic and social justice leaders. Having built a stable organizational reserve, Laura leaves CCF in strong hands, with a dedicated staff and engaged Board of Directors committed to ensuring the health and sustainability of the organization.

Laura shares that she has enjoyed the challenges and experiences of the last five years as CCF’s CEO, and is excited to be working with private clients, an element of the work she came to enjoy tremendously. She is also looking forward to engaging more directly in programmatic work that utilizes her decades of organizing, advocacy and activist experience. Laura looks forward to the new and different ways all of our paths will cross in the pursuit of racial, social, economic and environmental justice.

It is difficult to think of a time in U.S. history when the grassroots organizing work that CCF supports has been more critical to the freedom of all people living in this country. Our dedication to resourcing this work remains steadfast, as it has over our 30-year history. During this transition, the Board of Directors will be centering our values, engaging our partners, donors and allies, and working to build a thriving future for the organization.  The Board has established a Transition Committee to support the organizational shift, naming Ron Rowell, the former CEO of Common Counsel from 2010-2013, as Chair. The Transition Committee also includes Board Chair Carly Hare, and Board members Alex Tom, and Dennis Quirin, who are working closely with staff to ensure a smooth transition while a national search for a new CEO is underway.  We look forward to preparing Common Counsel for its next stage of growth.
